Runi’s brother Nausher Alam filed a case with the Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station in the capital over the murder of Sagar and Runi. Initially, the police of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station were investigating the case. Four days later, the investigation of the case was handed over to the Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
On April 18, 2012, 62 days after taking over the investigation, the DB admitted its failure in the High Court. Then the court ordered RAB to investigate the case. Since then, RAB has been investigating the case.
